How to Lose Weight in 3 Days

Last Updated: April 5, 2013

3-daysWhile losing any significant amount of weight in a short time period is generally considered unhealthy, there may be times when you need to lose between 5 and 10 pounds for a special event such as a wedding or reunion. Fortunately, we all have what is known as “water weight” that we can easily shed to achieve our temporary weight loss goals. If you have just 3 days to lose weight, you need to focus your efforts on eliminating stored water from your body. Once the event is over, you can rehydrate and replenish your stores back to their normal levels with no ill side-effects.

Not a Diet
The first thing you need to know is that any effort to lose weight in 3 days should not be considered a diet. A diet is a long-term effort for sustainable weight loss. Any weight loss that occurs in 3 days is temporary and due to water weight. It is not a diet plan and should not be relied on for long-term weight management.

3-Day Cleanse
Rather than thinking of a 3-day weight loss program as a diet, think of it as a cleanse. You will rid your body of toxins, retained water and other harmful products. This will leave you lighter, more alert and refreshed. In today’s toxic world, it’s a good idea to undergo a cleanse every once in a while to keep the body in peak condition.

How to Lose Weight In 3 Days
Now for the part you’ve been waiting for – how to lose the weight. You need to eat things and do activities that enhance water expulsion. Although it seems counter-intuitive, you need to drink plenty of water during this time period. It’s recommended that dieters drink at least 6 glasses of fluid each day.

The Schedule
When approaching the diet, know that it’s only temporary. The beauty of the 3 day diet is that it only lasts 3 days, so no matter how bad or difficult you find it, it will be over soon. If the first way sounds the most appealing, you should replace your current diet with the following:

Day 1: Breakfast – 1 cup of coffee, 1 piece of toast with 2 TBSP peanut butter, 1/2 grapefruit.
Lunch – 1 can of tuna, 1 piece of toast, 1 black coffee
Dinner – 3 oz lean chicken, 1 cup green beans, 1 cup carrots, 1 apple, 1 cup vanilla ice cream.

Days 2 and 3 are similar to day 1, but with different proteins. The result is that you consume fewer than 1,000 calories daily, which is less than the average person burns while performing regular activities.

The Result
The combination of low calories and increased water consumption leads the dieter to expel excess water weight, which boosts weight loss. The extreme low-calorie food plan prevents additional weight from being gained during this time.

10 Pounds
If the diet is followed closely, up to 10 pounds can be lost in 3 days. Of course, this varies from person to person and depends on how much water you were retaining to begin with.

Can you replace the coffee with water, or another low-calorie beverage if you tend to steer away from the caffeine/coffee in general?
