Did you know that when you’re attempting to lose weight there’s a simple method which can seriously increase weight loss? What is that method, you might ask? It’s simply drinking lots of water, nothing more, nothing less. Below we will explain you further as to why drinking water will help you to lose weight.
Drinking Water Reduces Appetite
Brenda Davy, a Virginia Tech nutritional researcher, did a study in 2008 where a group of adults drank 2 cups of water before every meal. Another group of adults who volunteered for the study didn’t drink these cups of water. The group that DID drink the 2 cups of water before every meal lost 5 pounds more weight as the group who didn’t, all in 3 months time. The study found the main reason why drinking water had a positive effect on weight loss is the effect the 2 cups of water had on the appetite of the volunteers when eating a meal. The people who drank water before their meal consumed about 13% less of their meal as the other volunteers who didn’t drink the 2 cups of water. Brenda Davy concluded that this must be the most influencial reason why drinking water has a positive effect on weight loss. Note: The effect on the reducement of appetite is a lot higher in adults as in children, although drinking water DOES have a positive effect on weight loss in children as well.
Boost In Metabolism
The second reason why drinking water can cause you to lose weight is that it can boost the metabolism. The boost in metabolism you get by drinking water will burn you more calories as you normally burn, which will result in losing more weight. The effect on the metabolism is only minimal though, the most important reason why drinking water works is because it lessens appetite, like explained above. Following a 6 meals a day diet is key to increase your metabolism. Visit our how many calories to lose weight page to learn more about burning calories and losing weight.
Water As Beverage
Another reason why drinking water is such a popular “losing weight method” is that it can heavily reduce the sugary or fatty beverages you normally drink. Think about it, when you continuously drink lots of water you will be less thirsty and will not feel the need to drink sugary beverages like soda, fruit juice or any other beverage that will cause you to gain weight. Juicing for weight loss can be healthy as well though, as explained on our juicing diet page.
Drinking a lot of water has a downside to it though; you will gain a lot of water weight. Go to our how to lose water weight page to learn how to lose it.
